MSW Program

MSW Foundation Curriculum

The foundation curriculum is required of all students, and provides them with a common base of values, skills, and knowledge. This foundation curriculum, built on a liberal arts perspective, includes course work in human behavior in the social environment (12 credit hours), social welfare policies and programs (6 credit hours), social work practice and the profession (6 credit hours), social work practice lab (2 credit hours), social work research (9 credit hours), and field practicum (8 credit hours) over two quarters, and a course in social and cultural diversity. Completion of the foundation in the first two quarters precedes enrollment in advanced-level courses. The third quarter enables students to begin to integrate foundation content with introductory content of their respective advanced concentration areas.
