American Violet, based on true events in the midst of the 2000 election, tells the astonishing story of a 24 year-old African American single mother of four young girls living in a small Texas town. With the custody of her children on the line, one brave mother wages a valiant battle to strike at the very heart of the corrupt Texas justice system.
Objectives:
1. Examine the inequalities within the judicial system that effect lower economic groups of women.
2. Describe the military tactics and the drug enforcement's plan of action to target people of color who live in poor communities.
3. Critique the hostile and environmental stresses that impact the African American family system.

“UNCOVERING THE HIDDEN BARRIERS”
A Home Visiting Program That Improves Social and Health Outcomes for Families and Children

This training covers the areas of effective family treatment working on a Case Management Team, retention of transient and mobile populations, proficient home visitation in impoverished communities and the correlation between social stressors and poor birth outcomes in racial disparities. A 29 min DVD viewing of Unnatural Causes: “When the Bough Breaks” will prompt an excellent interactive dialogue concerning the sources of chronic stressors that cause negative societal and health outcomes for people of color.
In this training, the participant will have learned:
• The benefits of Home Visitation Programs.
• The impact of the Home Visiting Case Management Team: Social Worker, Nurse and Outreach Worker.
• Home Visiting assessment tools and curriculum that empowers positive social and health related behaviors and reduces negative stressors in families.
• How supporting outreach and education initiatives can help close the gap of health disparities.
Penny Carroll MSW, LSW is a Program Manager for Columbus Public Health Division of Maternal Child Health. She is the Supervisor for the Community Outreach Assistance Team (COAT) Program that provides in-home supportive services for pregnant women to increase access to healthcare and improve birth outcomes.

Save Me is a deft exploration of the controversial ex-gay movement. The story follows a drug-addicted young man who overdoses and finds himself at the mercy of his disapproving family. Their solution is to check him into a Christian run ministry that can help cure young men of their 'gay affliction' through spiritual guidance.
