Want to Volunteer with the College of Social Work?
Office of Community Engagement Volunteer Opportunity: Are you an LISW or MSW, LSW or an alumni of the college? We would like you to consider impacting a current student as a volunteer co-instructor for field education in the College of Social Work. The Office of Community Engagement is currently seeking social workers to provide co-instruction for BSSW and MSW students who do not have a social worker at their field placement agency. As a co-instructor, you would meet individually with the student for one hour every week, and depending on what rank of student, you may meet for 2-3 semesters. The instruction can take place at the student’s agency, in a central location or at OSU. In this role, you would be responsible for evaluating student progress, providing frequent feedback to students, and referring students to appropriate college support services when needed. Topics of discussion include social work competencies and practice behaviors, placement/client issues, growth areas, areas for improvement, and goals.
There are incentives and rewards for being a volunteer. You will provide students with an opportunity to develop and enhance their social work skills through supervised practice in the field and be an integral part of their professional development. In addition, you are showing your commitment to future social workers and their education. The college hosts an orientation with free CEUs and an appreciation luncheon for instructors. In addition, as a volunteer co-instructor, you will be able to attend any continuing education offering of the college for free.
LISW applicants are preferred, but LSWs with a MSW can also apply for a co-instructor position. If you are interested, send your resume to Lisa Durham, Assistant Dean for Community Engagement and Director of Field Education, at durham.49@osu.edu.
