1-4:15pm Training: "From fostering onto adoption: Staying connected on the journey." Presenters: Rose M. Handon, Ph.D., LSW, and Maureen Heffernan, MSSA, LISW.
Presenter: Rose M. Handon, Ph.D., LSW
Dr. Rose M. Handon is a nationally known licensed social worker and retired human services administrator from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Her public service career spans over 30 years. Since 2009, Dr. Handon has served as an advisory consultant for: Midwest Child Welfare Implementation Center; Served as a grant peer reviewer for the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services: Administration for Children; U.S. Department of Health and Human Services: Office of Community Services; U.S. Office for Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention; U.S. Department of Justice: Office for Victims of Crime; and is a lead consultant and trainer for the National Resource Center for Adoption. She services as an adjunct and associate faculty member with Post University, Northern Arizona University, and Indiana Wesleyan University where she teaches human services, public policy, research, and an array of business management courses either online and/or onsite. She has also been a community lecturer for The Ohio State University, and previous Field Instructor of the year as awarded by the College of Social Work.
Co-Presenter: Maureen Heffernan, MSSA, LISW
Maureen Heffernan, LISW, is a nationally known child welfare consultant and trainer. She has worked in child welfare for over 30 years. Her areas of expertise include permanency planning and the identification, development and support of kinship, foster, and adoptive families. Maureen has been a consultant for the National Resource Center for Adoption for the last several years. She is also a regular trainer in the Ohio Child Welfare Training program and an adjunct instructor of Social Work at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She has published and served as co-author on child welfare topics.
